A single-herb liquid extract of dried seed of Prunus japonica, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Yu li ren is the kernel of a small Chinese bush cherry, taken out of the stone after the flesh is removed. The shrub is grown as an ornamental for its dense early blossom, pale pink on bare twigs, and it fruits with small dark red cherries in late summer. The kernels are flat, oval, pale and pointed at one end, and the thin brown seed coat is usually rubbed off. It is a stone-fruit kernel — see the warnings.

Glycerite: Prunus japonica dried seed, vegetable glycerin USP, distilled water.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

This is a stone-fruit kernel and contains cyanogenic compounds, which release small amounts of cyanide when broken down. Do not exceed the suggested amount and keep well out of reach of children. Yu Li Ren also has a laxative action — reduce the amount or stop use if the stool loosens. Not for use in pregnancy. Avoid it if you have a stone-fruit allergy.
